Prices Act 1974
This Act gives the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment the power to make orders to control the display of pricing information. The Price Marking (Northern Ireland) Order 2004 requires the prices of products to be clearly shown. For example, the selling price of cars for sale on a garage forecourt has to be displayed, while for products such as fruit and vegetables sold loose by weight, the price per kilogram must be displayed.
The Order also states how the price indication should be given – clearly legible, easily identifiable and in proximity to the product.
