Consumer Transactions (Restrictions on Statements) Order 1976*
* From 26 May 2008 see Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations.
This Order prohibits the display of notices in shops or statements in advertisements which attempt to restrict your rights under the Sale of Goods Act. A criminal offence is committed if a shopkeeper displays a sign stating ‘No refunds on sale goods’ or a trader writes ‘Sold as seen and inspected’ on an invoice.
The Order also covers guarantees, which must contain a statement to say that your statutory rights are not affected by the guarantee.
